Mobile Phone Recycling now at Neale Burgess’ Office
01-November-2009
The office of Neale Burgess, State Member for Hastings, is now a collection point for MobileMuster, the free recycling program of the mobile phone industry.
It is important that mobile phones, chargers and accessories are not thrown out in the rubbish as they are not biodegradable.
Old phones, chargers, accessories and batteries can be dropped off at Neale’s office:
6 Eramosa Road East, Somerville.
MobileMuster extracts over 90 percent of the metals and plastics in phones which are then turned into plastic fence posts, jewellery and stainless steel products.
In 2008-2009 122 tonnes of mobile phone components were collected, which included 806,000 handsets and batteries. This is 26 percent more than in 2007-2008.
MobileMuster has collected 647 tonnes of handsets, chargers, batteries and accessories since the program started in 1999.
