Works at Intersection of Frankston-Flinders Road and Mornington-Tyabb Road to Improve Safety
30-September-2011
The Parliamentary Secretary for Transport, Edward O’Donohue MLC and Member for Hastings, Neale Burgess MP, have announced that works on a safety improvement project at the intersection of Frankston-Flinders Road and Mornington-Tyabb Road in Tyabb will begin today.
Mr O’Donohue said the project will include the installation of a fully controlled right turn to improve safety at this blackspot intersection.
“Frankston-Flinders Road is a busy arterial route on the Peninsula,” he said.
“It is difficult for northbound vehicles on Frankston-Flinders Road to safely turn right against the oncoming traffic.
“In the five-year period ending 2010, there were three casualty crashes recorded at this intersection; two of which resulted in serious injury.
“We are taking steps to reduce the risk of crashes at this location with the installation of a fully controlled right turn on Frankston-Flinders Road.
“Providing a fully controlled right turn will improve safety and reduce the incidence of crashes at this site.”
Hastings MP, Neale Burgess welcomed these important works.
“This is good news as the upgraded intersection will improve road safety on busy Frankston-Flinders Road”.
“Projects such as this are vital to the safety of our local community. This is a well known blackspot intersection and the government has taken action to improve safety at this location".
The project is funded under the Safer Roads Infrastructure Program.
