HASTINGS & CRIB POINT ARE IN THE RUNNING FOR TIDY TOWNS AWARDS

Neale Burgess is very pleased to announce that both HASTINGS & CRIB POINThave been named as Finalists in the 2011 Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria Tidy Towns – Sustainable Communities Awards.
Hastings and the Crib Point Advisory Group are in the running to receive several Awards each including:
- Hastings - Tidy Town of the Year/Hastings - Community Action for Western Port Festival/Hastings – Protection of the Environment/Hastings- Young Leaders Group
- Crib Point (Advisory Group) – Towards Zero Waste/Protection of the Environment/Water Conservation
“This is a fantastic result for the Hastings and Crib Point communities and a fitting reward for all the hard work that has been volunteered by dedicated individuals in the community” Mr Burgess said.
This year KABV received 188 nominations from across the community for 53 individual entrants in twelve award categories, including:
· Victoria’s Tidy Towns
· Community Action (metro and rural categories)
· Cultural Heritage
· Environmental Sustainability
· Towards Zero Waste
· Protection of the Environment
· Community Government Partnerships
· Water Conservation
· Energy Efficiency
· Young Leaders – individuals & groups
Minister for Environment and Climate Change Ryan Smith said that the Victoria Tidy Towns awards build community pride by giving regional communities an opportunity to celebrate their innovative, sustainable and creative initiatives.
“The awards are a great way for your town to experience state-level recognition for everyday action taken to improve, maintain and sustain the local environment.
“I congratulate all finalists on their efforts to practically improve our environment,” Mr Smith said.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony at Rutherglen, Victoria’s 2010 Tidy Towns winner, on Saturday 22 October 2011.
