BORAL STOPPED

24-August-2011

I am pleased that Boral has finally declared publicly that its proposed bitumen plant is not going ahead at Crib Point.

Prior to the last election I made a promise to this community that I would not allow the Boral proposal to proceed and today’s announcement makes public delivery of that promise.

Immediately following the election of the Coalition Government last November Boral was made aware that the new government’s policy was that no industrial development would be allowed to proceed south of Hastings.

While Boral was issued with a permit by Labor Planning Minister Justin Madden, Liberal Planning Minister Matthew Guy has publicly stated that no bitumen plant would be built at Crib Point.

I congratulate the Crib Point community on a long, hard and ultimately successful fight.
