Calls for submissions in the Victorian Speed Limit Review
08-October-2011
Residents of Hastings Electorate are reminded they only have a few more days until Tuesday 11 October to nominate speed limits they would like to be considered in the 2011 Victorian Speed Limit Review.
Minister for Roads Terry Mulder called for the review recognising the importance of speed zones on road safety.
“So far 200 submissions have been received from stakeholders and members of the public and we are looking forward to hearing what Victorians have to say,” Mr Mulder said.
“We are conducting this review to ensure that community expectations are met and road safety benefits are maximised.”
Neale Burgess MP, State Member for Hastings said the review aims to make speed limits simpler, more consistent and easier to understand for all Victorians.
“I call for submissions to ensure everyone’s view is heard so we can achieve maximal consistency in speed limits, which meets public expectations” Mr Burgess said.
Mr Burgess said speed limits are set to provide a balance between safety and mobility, with consideration given to traffic, pedestrians and surrounding developments.
VicRoads will complete the Review by the end of the year and present the findings to the Victorian Coalition Government for funding consideration.
Submissions will close 11 October 2011 and can be sent to speedreview@roads.vic.gov.au or posted to Speed Limit Review, 60 Denmark Street, Kew, Vic, 3101.
