Port of Hastings: ministerial visit
08-April-2011
On Wednesday, 30 March, I was pleased to host the Minister for Ports on a tour of the port of Hastings. During his visit the minister confirmed that the Baillieu government will introduce legislation to return independence to the port of Hastings. The previous Labor government legislated to gift complete ownership and control of the port of Hastings to its competitor, the port of Melbourne. If this situation had been allowed to stand, the serious negative effects would have reverberated through every aspect of my local community and across the state. Local families, businesses, job seekers and the environment would have paid the price for the previous Labor government's lack of courage, foresight and commercial sense.
