Somerville Netball Club: funding
17-June-2011
Mr BURGESS (Hastings) -- After more than 10 years of hard work Somerville Netball Club has had a win that will make a lasting difference to its more than 30 teams and 300 young women players. I was pleased to have had the opportunity recently to announce that the Somerville Netball Club had been awarded a grant of $250 000 in the Baillieu government's first state budget. This money will provide the club with three new playing courts, lighting and proper fencing. Importantly these new facilities will also add to the number of quality playing facilities available to all participants in the local netball league. Netball is the largest female participation sport in Australia, and this grant will encourage even more young people to take up playing sport. Involvement in sport provides participants with social interaction as well as the many mental and physical health benefits that come from having an active lifestyle.
I congratulate the Somerville Netball Club and its former president, Kerrie Brodie, on this important step. I wish the club continued success.
