Bill Jones

19-August-2011

Mr BURGESS (Hastings) -- On Friday, 15 July, I attended the funeral of Mr Bill Jones, who had served the Country Fire Authority for some 68 years. It was an outstanding contribution to both the CFA and the wider community, and I wish to pay tribute on behalf of my community to his great life of service. In 1943 Mr Jones was a foundation member of the Moorooduc CFA. In 1968 he received the British Empire Medal, and in 1974 he received the Queen's Long Service and Good Conduct Medal. Mr Jones was made a life member of the Victorian Rural Fire Brigades Association in 1984, and in 1985 he received the T. H. Grigg Memorial Achievement Award. In 1994 he was awarded the Australian Fire Service Medal; in 1995, the National Medal. The year 2008 marked 65 years of service for Mr Jones, who received his 65-year badge. Mr Jones made an outstanding contribution over 68 years and was committed to saving lives, properties, his mates and his community. He leaves an inspirational legacy, one which we can all admire.
