BlueScope Steel: job losses
14-September-2011
Mr BURGESS -- The announcement of a cut of 200 jobs at BlueScope Steel in Hastings was a terrible blow to the workers, their families and the local economy. With the support of the coalition government I have sought to provide all possible assistance to those who are suffering through this very difficult time.
On Friday, 2 September, I visited the newly established job centre at BlueScope with Kristi Beaglehole, the manager of external affairs at BlueScope. I trust that this very proactive facility will help give those who have lost their jobs a very real reason to be optimistic about the future. Across the state the coalition government will continue to focus on repairing the damage done to Victoria's economy by 10 years of hard Labor and, at a local level, by the fast-tracking of the development of the Port of Hastings.
