Crib Point: bitumen plant
14-September-2011
Mr BURGESS (Hastings) -- It was my great pleasure last week to announce that the bitumen facility that the Labor government had planned for the foreshore at Crib Point has been stopped forever. Prior to the last election I promised the Crib Point community that if we were elected we would stop Boral's proposed bitumen storage and transport facility, and last week's announcement was the public delivery of that very important commitment. After a decade of being lied to, neglected and mistreated by Labor, the people of Crib Point now know that under this coalition government their voices are heard, their wishes are respected and their trust is valued and rewarded. This one win was critical to the future of Crib Point. Had Labor's plan been allowed to proceed, the bitumen plant would have been just the beginning of the complete reindustrialisation of Crib Point. I congratulate the community of Crib Point on its courage and tenacity in this momentous achievement.
