BUNGLED SCHOOL CLEANER REFORMS MUST NOT EXTEND TO REGIONAL VICTORIA
8 August 2018
Minister James Merlino must immediately rule out extending Labor’s failed school cleaner contract changes to regional Victoria schools.
This bungled Labor initiative has caused widespread devastation, leaving schools dirtier for longer, hundreds of innocent small businesses without work and countless cleaners underpaid or underemployed.
Metropolitan Melbourne schools have had the new system in place for the past 38 days and have already made over 120 complaints to the Department of Education.
The Minister’s pathetic announcement of an audit of the major companies he himself employed shows even he has realised these reforms were a bad idea.
Regional Victorian schools need consistency and reliability from their school cleaners, many of whom live and work in the local community.
The Minister must immediately rule out destroying country schools like he has metropolitan schools.
Quotes attributable to Neale Burgess MP, Shadow Minister for Small and Medium Enterprises:
“Hundreds of small businesses and their families are being punished as a result of what is another bungled Labor policy”.
Minister Merlino must immediately rule out destroying regional Victorian small businesses, who are doing a great job keeping our schools clean”.
“Our kids deserve to learn in an environment – these reforms are simply unfair”
