*Please note before downloading and signing this petition that it is hosted on this site on behalf of a number of Vets local to the Hastings Electorate, who believe that the Legislation in its current form will compromise animal welfare in this state.
The Petition calls for an independent Inquiry by a Committee of Victoria’s Legislative Council, into the Domestic Animals Amendment (Puppy Farm and Pet Shops) Bill 2016.
Such an Inquiry would call for evidence about the intended and unintended consequences of the Legislation from concerned members of the community.
The proposers of the Petition believe an inquiry is needed because the government has fail to fulfil its commitment to properly consult with the community about the Legislation, before bringing it to Parliament.
The Proposers of this Petition are supportive of the reinstatement of Dogs Victoria as an “Applicable Organisation” and do not support or in any way condone “puppy farms” or any other individual or organisation that exploits animals.
To the Legislative Assembly of Victoria
The Petition of residents of Victoria draws to the attention of the House their collective concerns with respect to the proposed amendments to the Domestic Animals Act 1994.
We are passionate about animal welfare. We do not believe the proposed changes will solve the problems they are intended to address; however, we do believe that these changes will negatively impact both animal welfare and the pet industry.
The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Assembly of Victoria:
Not support the aforementioned changes to the Domestic Animals Act 1994 and instead call for the bill to be referred to a parliamentary inquiry or the relevant upper house committee to review so that an evidence based approach to issues around animal welfare and the Pet Industry can be achieved.
