I recently met again with representatives of the Acland Street, St Kilda, traders group to listen to their further concerns about the planned Acland Street tram upgrade. This plan is further confirmation that the Labor Party just does not get business or understand how it operates.
Last Sunday it was my honour to join more than 3000 Country Fire Authority (CFA) volunteers, the Leader of the Opposition, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and many of my Liberal and Nationals colleagues at a rally in the Treasury Gardens where, on behalf of all Victorians, the Premier and his Labor Party partners in crime were told to keep their grubby hands off the CFA.
The Somerville and surrounding community was devastated by the destruction of the Western Port basketball stadium by a fire that occurred at the Somerville Community and Recreation Centre on 1 May
Arthritis is a very common condition in Australia affecting people of all ages from all walks of life. While there are many strategies for lessening the symptoms, arthritis often significantly impacts the daily lives of sufferers.
I raise a matter for the Acting Minister for Police. The action I seek is that the minister immediately provide sufficient additional frontline police to open the Somerville police station, allowing it to fulfil its intended purpose of keeping Somerville and surrounding communities safer.
Late last month I had the honour of signing a pledge to show support for our local brigade firefighters. Volunteer Fire Brigades Victoria(VFBV), the body that represents volunteer firefighters across our state, has launched a campaign to encourage Victorian MPs to support all firefighters in recognition of the risks they run of contracting cancer from exposure to toxins as part of their firefighting service role.
The Hastings electorate has been ignored during the Premier's first year in office. For 11 years under the Bracks and Brumby governments budget after budget neglected our area. In stark contrast, over the four years the coalition was in government hundreds of millions of dollars were poured into badly needed upgrades to local infrastructure and services.
I raise a matter for the Minister for Ports. The action I seek is for the minister to reverse Labor's policy position and commit to building a second container port at Hastings. Under a coalition government the port of Hastings meant thousands of jobs for our state, greater opportunities for our businesses, improved services, infrastructure for our community and respect and protection for our environment.
Today I rise to call on the Minister for Police to fulfil the clear directions given by the Chief Commissioner of Police, Ken Lay, as detailed in his letter last year for the Somerville police station, and provide the 16 hours a day service Chief Commissioner Lay had committed to in writing for the people of the Somerville community.
Member for Hastings, Neale Burgess said, I have today called on the Victorian Minister for Roads, to get on with the job of installing the Bittern pedestrian crossing.
