As we mourn for the loss of a local 49-year old from our community in Hastings, it is a time to pause, reflect and remind ourselves of the importance of our local emergency service workers, both paid and volunteer.
The men and women who volunteer with the Balnarring, Crib Point, Bitten, Hastings, Tyabb, Moorooduc, Somerville, Pearcedale and Baxter CFA units are always ready to put their lives on the line to save ours, and the incident on Thursday night was no exception.
As always, our CFA units were very quickly on the scene.
I have worked closely with these CFA volunteer organisations for over a decade and have always admired their professionalism, dedication and service to our community.
Thank you to all our brave firefighters, for all you do to keep our community safe and for once again putting the welfare of your community above your own at such a tragic incident last Thursday night.
