Merlino Wipes Out Hundreds of Small Businesses

On 1 July this year, James Merlino will wipe out the majority of Victoria’s school cleaning small businesses with the stroke of his pen.

This move will mean the loss of hundreds of jobs and our local schools left dirtier for longer.

23 of the affected schools are right here in the Monbulk Electorate.

Among the hundreds of small businesses that James Merlino will wipe are the hard-working, loyal family businesses that have kept our schools clean, in some cases, for decades.

These include:

Ø  Silvan Primary School

Ø  Montrose Primary School

Ø  Menzies Creek Primary School

Ø  Sassafras Primary School

Ø  Ferny Creek Primary School

Ø  Monbulk Primary School

Ø  Mount Dandenong Primary School

Ø  Tecoma Primary School

Ø  Olinda Primary School

Ø  Belgrave South Primary School

Ø  Macclesfield Primary School

Ø  Upper Ferntree Gully Primary School

Ø  Kallista Primary School

Ø  Upwey Primary School

Ø  Selby Primary School

Ø  Upwey South Primary School

Ø  Mooroolbark East Primary School

Ø  Gladesville Primary School

Ø  The Patch Primary School

Ø  Billanook Primary School

Ø  Sherbrooke Community School

Ø  Monbulk College

Ø  Upwey High School

Regardless of the fact that many of these companies have years remaining on their contracts, the Andrews Government is terminating them on 30 June.

This latest attack on Victorian small family businesses is a disgrace and just more evidence that Daniel Andrews and his band of bullies will stop at nothing to expand their union base and cling to power.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Small and Medium Enterprise, Neale Burgess:

These reforms will destroy over 700 small businesses; this protest is a clear demonstration by local cleaners that they will not accept these reforms lying down.”

“Labor must stop these destructive reforms and commit to honouring the existing contracts in place with local school principals and councils across the electorate.”

Comments attributable to Liberal Candidate for Monbulk, John Schurink:

“As I get around the Monbulk Electorate, parents tell me they are worried about the cleanliness of their school under these reforms.  I’m calling on the current Member for Monbulk to halt these changes and ensure our local schools are taken of”.

Comments attributable to Tim Smith MP, Shadow Minister for Education:

“Part-time Education Minister James Merlino, is more interested in betraying the CFA and cutting dodgy deals with the United Fire Fighters Union and Peter Marshall than he is supporting local schools and the local small businesses that clean them”
