Pakenham Small Business

On 16 February I was pleased to visit a number of small businesses in the Pakenham area with the wonderful member for Bass. These small businesses form the very backbone of what our state is and build our state's resilience and strength, yet this government ignores them.

Vietnam Veterans Gravesite Vigil

On 21 February I was invited to Crib Point, with the Crib Point RSL, to participate in a Vietnam War veterans gravesite vigil for Colin Joseph Whiston, a soldier who died on active service in August 1966 during the Vietnam War.

Tooradin Coastal Villages Community Forum

On 24 February I attended a coastal villages law and order community forum that was organised by the Tooradin and Coastal Villages Commerce Committee in response to the crime wave that is hitting Victoria.

Crib Point and Somerville bushfires

On behalf of our community I would like to publicly thank our local emergency services workers, whose brave efforts kept our community safe yet again as they fought to control recent fires in Crib Point and Somerville. We are very fortunate to live in a state that is protected by excellent firefighters and outstanding brigades. This is the second year in a row that Crib Point lives and property have been saved from fierce fires by the supreme efforts of a group of people and a change of weather.

Public Holidays – Petitions

To the Legislative Assembly of Victoria:

We, the undersigned citizens of Victoria, call on the Legislative Assembly of Victoria to note the harmful impacts of the decision by the Daniel Andrews Labor government to declare new public holidays in Victoria.

Port of Hastings

I raise a matter for the Minister for Ports. The action I seek is for the minister to reverse Labor's policy position and commit to building a second container port at Hastings. Under a coalition government the port of Hastings meant thousands of jobs for our state, greater opportunities for our businesses, improved services, infrastructure for our community and respect and protection for our environment.

Hastings Electorate Funding

The Hastings electorate has been ignored during the Premier's first year in office. For 11 years under the Bracks and Brumby governments, budget after budget neglected our area.

Family Violence

It is an interesting opportunity to stand and speak today, far from being an enjoyable one, but it is one that I think we all need to express ourselves on and be heard in our communities and across the broader state and across the country because, as was indicated by several speakers today, we do face what can only be described as an epidemic and an epidemic of the worst kind, which is taking up to two women from our community every week.

Otama Submarine

The submarine HMAS Otama was left to rot in Western Port for close to 10 years by the Bracks and Brumby Governments. Immediately after winning government in 2010 I wrote to the new Minister for Environment and Climate Change to ask him to overturn the decisions of the past and give permission for the submarine to come ashore and be granted an actual home location.

Vic Roads Relocation

On 14 October I joined the Member for Ripon in Ballarat to speak to small businesses about the urgency of relocating VicRoads headquarters to Ballarat. The relocation of VicRoads to the civic hall site in Ballarat was instituted by the Coalition government in March last year.
