Member for Hastings Neale Burgess was delighted by the announcement that the Western Port Basketball Stadium will finally be rebuilt following a long campaign to convince the Andrews Government to provide the funding.
This community was left devastated by the fire which tore through the stadium in early 2016 and has left Somerville families having to travel all over the Mornington Peninsula for their games.
Somerville is a sports-mad community with a real love for their basketball.
The community has suffered long enough and will now, at last, have the facilities to match this growing community’s needs.
The new stadium will feature four multi-sport indoor courts, female friendly change rooms, an umpires change room, a first aid room, a tournament office and car parking.
Mr Burgess was proud to present a petition to the Victorian Parliament with over 600 signatures calling on the government to provide the necessary funds to get this stadium rebuilt.
Quotes attributable to Neale Burgess MP, Member for Hastings:
“I was proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with my community to fight for this funding. This means almost 2000 local people will again be able to play their sport locally. This is a great investment in our community”
“I want to congratulate the President of the Association, George Yerondais as well as his hard-working committee and all of the players and coaches involved in achieving this for the community. This is a real community victory!”
